Macaroni Kid Explores Checked out Barnet Park!
This great find located at the end of Sand Clay Rd. in Kinston has a little something for everyone in the family! If you live in Kinston, and your child plays sports of any kind, you may be rolling your eyes right about now thinking you know everything you possibly could know about this park, (since you pretty much live there during soccer and soft/baseball season) but give me a moment of your time to point out some great features, and surprises to this little park with big appeal!
Barnet Park is home to a two soccer fields, one regulation, and one for Pee Wee sports. There are also two combination soccer/softball fields, and a t-ball field, plus (as every mom with toddlers and ball players knows) a concession building with the all important BATHROOM! However, that may be the extent of your knowledge about Barnet Park. Consider this when you find yourself with some "exploration" time on your hands:
1) Tee Time! Barnet Park is home to an 18 hole disc golf course. Complete with concrete tee pads, benches, a place to hang your bags, and par guidlines for the hole.
2) Let's Eat! The park is home to a picnic area that is a lovely place to take a lunch break from work during the day, or host a cookout or party. With adequate seating/table space for a large number of guests and two grills of various sizes, your cookout is sure to please!
3) Monkey Around! The playground area is just right for many different ages of children. Although, I do not have exact measurements but I did some rough measurements with my own height as we explored, and concluded that the highest platform on the playground was around 6 ft. off the ground with many of the lower platforms around 1-2 ft. off the ground. A rubber composite mat welcomes children to play, and wide steps lead them from the ground into the play structure where they can enjoy the many slides, games, crawling, and climbing adventures that await them. Parent's can enjoy watching the kids from any one of the 4 benches that are located in the corners of the play area(many of which are situated under trees for some delightful shade!)

4)Hike the Park! Take a stroll through the park and begin to forget the fact that you are within the city limits as you enjoy the sencery; from the meandering stream that greets you, to the beautiful foliage, and gently rolling hills. Sometimes it may seem as if you left the business of the day far, far away and yet you are still within minutes of businesses and shopping areas.
Barnet Park is a great place to play, and offers such a variety of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Hang together, or do your own thing, however you decide to utilize Barnet Park we think you'll enjoy it!
